Requesting agency records in Idaho

- Who can request
- Any person may request records, but Idaho distinguishes residents and people employed by residents from other nonresidents. State residency status accurately.
- How to submit
- Identify the Idaho agency, municipality or county that maintains the record, then use its published records-custodian contact or accepted request channel. Describe existing documents, identifiers and dates. Keep the submitted request and acknowledgement; court copies and vital certificates use the separate services above.
- Response and delivery
- Resident requests generally receive a decision within three working days, extendable to 10 working days. Other nonresident requests generally use 21 calendar days. Extensions require written notice; check the applicable nonresident extension in the current statute.
- Fees and estimates
- Residents generally receive the first 100 pages and two processing hours free. Nonresident charges can differ but must not exceed actual costs.
- If access is denied
- A denial should state the statutory basis and appeal rights. The Act provides district court review; observe the deadline in the denial.
